Wikitrans nació como un proyecto antropológico que consistió en la indagación del imaginario de la sociedad actual mediante encuestas y estadísticas que revelaron de manera libre e inmediata la inconsistencia del conocimiento sobre el significado de la palabra transgénico. De ahí, el título del proyecto, compuesto entre: "Wiki", nombre que recibe un sitio cuyas páginas pueden ser creadas, editadas y eliminadas por usuarios y "trans" como abreviatura de transgénico, tema central de este proyecto.
"¿Qué crees que es un transgénico?" fue la única pregunta que Wendy realizó a mil personas de entre cinco y ochenta y siete años en escuelas, mercados, parques, plazas y transportes. Las respuestas y dibujos realizados fueron variables por lo que se calificaron en nueve campos semánticos: frutas, humanos, alegorías a la ciencia ficción, formas abstractas, medicinas, etc. Terminadas las encuestas se imprimieron nueve libros cuyos contenidos son explícitamente lo que la gente respondía. Los libros fueron colocados en un stand, una manera reveladora de almacenar los resultados, pero también de fácil acceso.

Wikitrans was born as an anthropological project that consisted on an examination of current society's mental images through surveys and statistics that showed in a free and instant way, knowledge's inconsistency about the meaning of the word transgenic. The title of the project is composed of "wiki", a name used by webpages that can be created, edited and eliminated by users; and "trans", an abbreviation of transgenic, the project's central theme.
"What do you think transgenic means?" was the only question Wendy asked to a thousand people who were between five and eighty-seven years old in schools, markets, parks, plazas and public transport. The answers and drawings people produced were quite diverse, this is why they were divided into nine categories: fruits, humans, sci-fi allegories, abstract forms, medicines, etc. After the survey, nine books that explicitly showed people's answers were printed. The books were placed on a stand, a revealing way to keep results, but also of easy reach.
